BEAR LAKE

We had a great family trip to Bear Lake of the 4th of July with Paul's family.

We spent the weekend at the Cabin and lake. We had a great time at the lake with water toys and unlimited sand. We took a few rides on the 4-wheelers and enjoyed good company with family. Nana McNeely brought the ultimate crafts to help entertain the kids and adults. We had a wonderful time!

A night with the Bees

June 2011

We had a fabulous, relaxing, fun night @ the Bees game. We enjoyed the grass out past left field. All the boys took their gloves in hope for a fly ball. Mason convinced an out-fielder to throw him a practice ball and he was extatic. We ran into some good friends and the kids loved riding the train and have a little room to wiggle their bodies.

Paul had the megatron show for all to see. He was running for a fly ball and slipped on the steep slope of the grass. Both feet flew out from underneath him and he landed flat on his butt/back. The fly ball popped right off his toe. The entire crowd growned at his pain. He quickly recovered and retrieved his earned ball.

The summer night was warm with a light breeze. It was a great family night!

Little Miss Madilynne has been enjoying a year of dance. She has really enjoyed learning jazz, hip hop, ballet, and a little bit of tumbling. She has such a passion to move her body to music. I love to see the joy in her face as she shares her passion with others. Her team is called the Mini Starz and they have taken first place in every competition this year! Way to go Madilynne!

Simplicity

Madilynne was at the grocery store with me this week and we where making our way through the produce department. I picked up a watermelon and placed it into the cart. It might have been my hope of better weather and the desire for summer to come. For whatever reason, I decided it was time to have watermelon and much to my delight was Madilynne's response. "MOM, I HAVE BEEN DREAMING OF THIS!" she exclaimed as she wrapped her arms around the watermelon. I snickered inside as she hugged the watermelon all the way home!

A new year!

A new year to think about the potential of improvement and a good starting point. We, as a family, have faced many challenges in the last year and are excited to start a new year. We feel very blessed in being protected and watched. I look forward to an upward swing and know that what ever it might be we can continue with our heads held up.

I sometimes doubt myself. Okay, I doubt myself a lot. But I am learning that with God's help and humility, and lot of patience, things work out. Maybe not for what I feel they should be, but they work out. I am thankful for that and a few great friends that have a listening ear. Thanks!

Halloween Fun!

I think I am sick about trying to catch up w/ the Summer, maybe a little later. For now I thought I would show some delicious pictures from a fun Halloween Party at Grandpa and Nana McNeely's house.

Everyone got to decorate two HUGE green apples and eat "scary" food. It was a spook!

Mitchell was a clone trooper. Madilynne pranced as "Belle" the princess. Mason was the cutest little Buzz Lightyear I have ever seen! We forged through the rain and had a happy Halloween!

July 2010 - On Top of the World

What a glorious day to begin our vacation!

Our family vacation this summer was simple, inexpensive, and FUN! We had a blast.
We spent two days in Jackson hole at an RV Park. We rode the tram in Teton Village to the top of the Tetons and hiked around for the morning.

Mason was on top of the world! He loved the freedom of running as hard as he could.
Madilynne adored all the little flowers.
Mitchell, Madilynne, and Mason were thrilled to be together. . .
as a family. . . . Mom & Dad included!

We played at the base of the Tetons in the stream that ran thru the village. Ordered a pizza and just enjoyed family time!

We waited on Redwood Road w/ Bubbles and snaps. The Packard Family joined Heather and the kids to enjoy the parade together. Paul was out on a call-out for the Sheriff's Department.

A Trip for Two - June 2010

Paul & Heather anxiously waited for their first flight away from the kids to Denver. Heather surprised Paul at Valentines Day with two tickets to Denver while the Red Sox were playing the Rockies.

Paul's Dad, Jack, just happens to LOVE the Rockies. He met up with us in Denver to enjoy a couple games at Coors Field.
Pedroia & Poppy played great. The games were intense......

The Rockies won the game, but Paul & Heather are the biggest winners. They had a fun filled couple of days to see and enjoy each other!

A Night w/ the BEE's - June 2010

Paul & I met up at the Bee's game on a warm summer night. Mitchell seemed CRAZY about the game and any fly ball!
Mason ate every last kernel of popcorn.
Paul was just thrilled to be out of the house and at ANY game! Baseball FEVER!
We had an enjoyable time and the kids had a blast! I'm not sure who won the game. Hmmm...

I can't believe the month of August is here!
I have been dreading downloading my photos from the summer.
It took over an hour to download nearly 900 photos!
But now I can recall what we have enjoyed as a family
...and nothing is better than seeing my children's smiling faces!

APRIL

We celebrated Mitchell's 7th Birthday in true Mitchell style....
LEGO, LEGO, LEGO!

Did I mention LEGO. We had a lego party!
We had a lego building contest and a scavenger hunt!
Mitchell had a blast.
It's hard to believe my 1st baby is seven.
He is so inquisitive and none stop! Lord, give me the patience to keep going!

I made his personalized Lego cake from scratch! It was chocolious! And mind you my batteries died on my camera right after this photo was taken, bummer. I think my dad snagged extra pictures form me, I just need to find them.

After the official birthday time and friends went home, we had a family Easter Egg hunt in our front yard. The kids had a great time and it was over in lickedy split record time.

The 2nd Birthday we celebrated in April was Paul's. He turned 33! That is really hard to type....where has all the time gone. I remember being courted by a very young 21 year old, not to long ago, and enjoying warm summer nights and early mornings.....before kids...before a house....before many other worries of these times!
How time has kept on going, yet I still feel young at heart. I love my dear sweet heart and everything he does for me and our family. May the years be as kind to me as they have been to you! Happy Birthday Paul!

She's Back!

It seems like an eternity since I last worked on my own blog and vented through the written language for many unknown readers to hear my plea! Well, I hope to share more for my own benefit and sanity, hopefully!

Much has transpired since I last posted and I will try and do a little update, but life is a dramatic, difficult roller coaster to ride. And sometimes you just have to hold on, with all your might, and pray your seat belt holds you in. And to those few friends and God, I thank you! I have had SO, SO many ups and many, many downs. And been spun all around, I was quite disoriented. I think I have started to face forward now, but my coarse is still a little wobbly. Nothing shakes you more then having to question who you are as a person, what your purpose is, and what you will stand for. And then even more challenging is to stand! I have both feet planted and try to step, ever so lightly forward, with more determination and confidence each day. Simple, subtle prayers are answered with each waking moment, I am a testimant to that!

Now less on the drama and more on the puzzles and fun of money, or lack there over. Over the last 6 months I have tried to understand the world of "COUPONS" and how to work the system better and smarter. Thanks to a great sister-in-law and trial and error. I feel like I am finally starting to get the hang of it. At least I am on the edge of the ice berg.....

The Canyons

Paul & I went to the Canyons to ski on Saturday & Wednesday this past week. The powder was great and we had an awesome time.
Paul's brother joined us for his second time ever on a snow board. He ate a little bit of snow but overall did a great job!
Heather's little brother Nathan skipped out on a day of school and came to hang with his big Sis on the slopes. He seemed to enjoy himself as well.

A friend of mine recently asked Mom's to write what a typical day is like. So here is my typical day when I am not a work.

0700 - Wake up...Oh my goodness, Mason actually slept in until 0700,
instead of 0530. What a blessing.
Everyone up. Mitchell gets dressed w/ a lot of coaxing.
Dress Madi & Mason.
Mom puts on work out clothes in hopes of relieving
some stress.
Breakfast for all & clean up.
Laundry In & Out
Make lunches.
Unload the dishwasher.

0810 - Everyone wants honey toast to eat on the road. Toast for 3 coming up!

0815 - Load all 3 little ones & off to school for Mitchell.

0840 - Unload 2 little ones and off to the Elliptical.
Ran 4 1/2 miles in 32 mins, feeling good.

0920 - Load 2 little ones, pick up an extra, & off to Preschool.

0940 - Quick pick up in living room.

0945 - Laundry In & laundry Out

0950 - Put on Diego for Mason while I worked on organizing the Misc. drop-off counter.

0957 - Realized I had a meeting @ 1000 at Mitchell's school for the upcoming Book Fair.
Loaded 1 little body & headed to the school.

1100 - Volunteered in Mitchell's class.

1130 - @ Home, Lunch made.

1145 - Lunch Time

1215 - Put on a show for Madi & Mason.
Laundry In/Out
Thaw out chicken for dinner.
Shower for MOM

1315 - Nap time for Mason in Mom's bed.
Oops, mom enjoyed a 20 min nap her self.

1345 - Computer time - Bills, budget, e-mails, organize mail.
Laundry In & Out

1450 - Load 2 little bodies to pick Mitchell up from school.
Bank
DI - to unload the back of the car that had been loaded for a week.
Sports Chalet - to rent boots and ski poles for a Ski Date w/ Paul on Wednesday.

1630 - Unload 3 bodies, SNACK TIME, Homework, Dinner Prep.
Laundry In & Out.

1745 - Dinner w/ the entire Family. (I love those nights!)

1815 - Clean up: dishes, table, counters, & little hands.

1830 - Fold 8 loads of laundry from today and the day before.
Where does the sock monster live?
Paul helped to put it away too.

1930 - 3 Little ones dressed in P.J.'s and story time.

2000 - 3 Little bodies in bed and quiet!
Mom & Dad time!

Well, that's a typical day if I am not working at the Hospital. A lot to cram in to prepare for the following day, and we start all over tomorrow.

Memory Loss

Yesterday Paul & I got to spend a wonderful day @ the Canyons.
Paul snowboarded while I skied.
There was a ton of new powder, lots of places to go,
and no checking of head gear into the ground or Paul by Heather.

Mitchell, Madi, & Mason spent the morning w/ Nana & Papa Lewis,

Heaven sent time away from the kids!

We got back to pick up the kids and Nana was explaining to Mitchell that her dog,
Toby, had a girlfriend.
Mitchell was very curious and asked
"Does that mean they are going to make puppies?"
Nana then explained that Toby had been "fixed"
and couldn't make puppies any more.
Mitchell smiled and said,
"Oh, I get it. Being fixed is like having memory loss!"

So, to all of you who have been "fixed" I hope you find your mind soon!

Craziness of the Scott's

Life has been very disorganized and crazy lately. Heather was out of commission for a couple of months in Sept, Oct, and part of Nov. and has now jumped back into life a full swing with work, kids, and home. The fall has gone by in a flash.

The picture above and below really make me reflect on what is important.
And it is the people in that picture that keep me going...
These cute faces drive me to want to better...
But there are times in life when I don't know if I should cry or laugh...
Or when it is appropriate to do both!

Harvest Time '09

We started with just a few seeds and a few small plants. . . .

After many days of water. . . sunshine. . . weeding. . . more weeding . . . & TLC.
We, as a family, created something MAGICAL....

Our GARDEN!

We picked our first big batch . . .
and then we picked 1 week later and got these. . .
(You didn't know that you could grow 3 adorable children in 4 months time.)

Have you ever wondered what 47 pints, 14 quarts, and 20 1/2 pints of
Hot salsa,

Mild salsa,
Spaghetti Sauce (in the freezer),
Tomatillo Salsa,

and Strawberry Jam
Look like?
Well, there you have it:

23 pints of Zesty Hot Salsa
5 pints of Tomatillo Salsa
20 1/2 pints & 7 pints of Strawberry Jam
12 pints & 7 qts of Roma Mild Salsa
7 qts Spaghetti Sauce

74 jars in total!

Oh, but there are still more tomatoes, cucumbers (regular & armainion), jalapenos, Anaheim peppers, bell peppers, and carrots coming off.

Thank you dear Lord for blessing our family with these many experiences of growing, nurturing, and harvesting a garden.

Fresh Salsa

I have to preface this recipe, it is vague and changes a little every time I make the salsa. I just use what I have on hand so you may have to tweak it a little.

1 Large Bowl or Grocery sack full of tomatoes
1-2 Bell Peppers (Red, green, or yellow)
1 Lg onion or 5-6 green onions
5-6 Cloves of garlic
2 Jalapeno (seeded) or you can substitute for 2-3 Anaheims or Garden Salsa peppers)
1 Bushell of cilantro
2-4 Limes
Salt to taste

Use a food processor, the pulse mode, and chop away. Core your tomatoes first and leave the skins on. Chop. Dump tomatoes into receiving bowl. Next take the jalapeno, garlic, and bell peppers and chop finely and add to bowl. Chop onion and add to bowl. Hand chop the cilantro and squeeze in the limes. Add salt to taste.

The DAMN Pencils!

I was really excited for Mitchell to start 1st grade.
I was thrilled for Mitchell to start 1st grade.
Did I mention I am happy about school starting.

Here is the first of many stories to come...

I picked up Mitchell from his classroom on Wed. of last week and his teacher informed me that Mitchell now had a new special job.
I looked at Mitchell and asked, "What is your new special job?"

His reply, with a large smile, "I get to sharpen all the DAMN pencils!!!"

My mouth dropped and Ms. Steffensons' did the same.
I was mortified that my good little 1st grader was swearing in front of his brand new teacher!
I asked him to repeat what he said.

Mitchell said, " I get to sharpen all the DAMN pencils!"

Again my mouth dropped and I explained to Mitchell that we don't use that word.
He argued for a moment and then gave a great sigh and said goodbye to his teacher.
We walked to the edge of the hall and I was talking to Mitchell about why we don't use words like that and he interrupted me.

"But Mom, I said DAMN, you know, like when a light bulb gets small, and doesn't shine as big."

"OH!!! Mitchell you mean DULL. When the tip of a pencil becomes small like a light bulb, it is called DULL!"

"Okay Mom, whatever, DULL!"

I immediately made him turn around and inform Ms. Steffenson that he meant to say Dim and now knows what the word DULL means.

So if you ever need someone to sharpen you DAMN pencils, just let me know, I have the perfect little boy to do the job!

A day at the Beach!

We had a wonderful day at the beach at Bear Lake with just us and the kids. We packed a lunch, some floating toys and a couple buckets and shovels!

Who doesn't love Sand and Water in every crease of your body...
Building sand castles until your fingers look like prunes.....
And being turned into a gorgeous Mermaid!

It was a wonderful and relaxing day at the beach. We topped it off with world famous RASPBERRY SHAKES from LeBeu's. I don't think anything could have been better then being with my family, enjoying the smiles, and playing with the kids (Paul included)!

Minnetonka Cave, ID 7/09

On the 24th of July our little bunch packed up and headed to Bear Lake. We actually camped in Logan Canyon and drove down to the Lake and up to Minnetonka Cave in Idaho. It is very similar to Timpanogas Cave, except for the steep hike up. Instead you climb over 888 steps one way on the inside of the cave. The kids loved feeding the squirrels at the entrance as we waited for our tour to start. And Madilynne and Mason enjoyed an hour and a half long hike on Mom and Dad's back! OUCH! My thighs and back were shaking by the time we were done. But we did have a great time.

Franklin Basin, Logan Canyon

LEWIS REUNION 2009We had a great Lewis' Reunion in June this year up Logan Canyon at
Franklin Basin.
All my side of the family is actually in the photo!
24 in all, I think it's a first.

We camped, 4-wheeled, ate, and enjoyed each other's company & had SMORES!
We spent a day at the Bear Lake on the beach!
It was a little overcast, a slight breeze, but delightful!
We ended the afternoon w/ world famous Raspberry shakes &
then headed back to camp for a wonderful dutch oven dinner!
Heather tried a new recipe of Artichoke chicken
and dutch oven sausage-mushroom potatoes.
And of course we had peach & apple cobbler & more SMORES!
I don't think I have ever seen so much chocolate, graham crackers, and
marshmallows in one camp out!
Everyone contributed!

I think I win on the most glow. . . that is in my legs of course,
I am not pregnant!
This girl is getting a little comfortable in front of the camera!

What can I say about Nathan and Camille except their 1 year anniversary is almost here!

Morgan and Christy contributed the Jet Ski's for the day at the beach and the most kids, four, in the family!
The cousins, Dallin, Elijah, Hunter, and Mitchell turned over the sand in hopes of possibly finding buried treasure. They had a blast!
Fisher looked a little bloated, but he never sank!
Justin and Jake, chillin' in the shade.
Heather and Madilynne loved the sun and water. I don't think Madilynne stopped smiling once. She LOVES and I mean LOVES the beach!
Justin, Angie, Addison, and Jake just came up for a day of fun @ the campsite and @ the beach. We loved seeing their smiling faces. Jake just loved eating the sand!?! What can I say.... more fiber?
Paul wasn't feelin' to hot @ the beach and he was the perfect bed for a little nap for Mason!
Grandpa delighted in sweet little hugs to help warm up cold wet little girls!
Mason had fun pushing the throttle on the Jet Ski to go for "WRIDE!"
Marcie and Fish enjoyed several rides on the 4 wheelers!
Kinsley couldn't figure out where her tongue was supposed to go.
I think these two smiles sum up the fun we had as a family!

A THREE HOUR TOUR!

TONY GROVE, Logan Canyon, UTAH

Where's Gilligan?

"On a THREE HOUR TOUR, a THREE HOUR TOUR!"

I'm not sure who was the skipper, or even movie star, okay, maybe Madilynne. But I can tell you what started out as a little walk to help the kids not be so bored fishing @ Tony Grove turned into a three hour hike around the entire lake! And it was just me and my three brave little hikers.

Mason ran about the first 2 miles around the lake. We took a lot of little stops and enjoyed the scenery. But the last 2 to 2 1/2 miles I carried Mason and coached the kids to keep moving the last mile to mile and a half. I was very impressed by their stamina and great attitudes. It was a fun hike and I am proud we did it.

Mason loved sitting by the water and throwing anything he could get his little hands on into the water!

They smiled at every stopping point and posed for more pictures.
Dad got hollered at all around the lake when we could see him. He just kept waving back and kept on fishing w/ Nathan and Camille.

Belated 4th of July

We celebrated the 4th of July@ our house and a shmorgus-borg of family came from both sides of our families! We had a delightful BBQ and of course a visit to the Emergency Room.....
But it wasn't one of my kids this time.....Our nephew Jadon broke his arm being bounced by his "Big Kid Dad," Aaron, on the tramp. I felt awful!

The rest of us missed Jadon, Aaron, Amy, and Joshua, but pushed forward w/ somewhat legal fireworks and popsicles.

We roasted smores over a fire and then watched the big show from our front lawn after the Rodeo finished.

Adam really enjoyed himself!
Madi and Adi are only about 6 weeks apart. They thoroughly enjoyed the drinks and playing like little girls do.
Aunt Camille helped Mason enjoy his popsicle! He enjoyed the fireworks much more after the Paul's ear protection came out! He was sticky wet, messy grins!

Mud Wrestling!

This is what happens when you say yes to turning on the hose for just a few minutes!The sand pit became the MUD PIT! And before I screamed I grabbed my camera to capture the innovative minds of two small mischievous boys!
Mason just thought the bath water was a little dirty, but it didn't stop him from taking a swim!
At least Madi had on her swim suit! And then Mom got to use the hose to wash each one of them off!

UINTAS - JUNE 2009

We took our first 4 wheelin' trip this year to the Uintas. Mitchell got to practice more on his 4-wheeler then just a round the block. He did a long 2 hour ride and did great. His only complaint was blister on his left hand from holding on to the handle bars a little tight!

Mason couldn't get enough of the rides! He got so excited if we even mentioned going for another ride he would grab what he called his "helmenot" and scream "WIDE, WIDE, WIDE" until everyone was ready to go.

LAVA HOT SPRINGS -- June 2009

We enjoyed our first trip as a family to Lava Hot Springs, ID. We drove about 2 1/2 hours North to what felt like a different world. We camped at the local KOA and enjoyed hot bathing on Friday night. The kids absolutely loved it. I loved how warm it felt and then started to feel a little weird sitting in a large, hot pool of water with about 100 other people. Just sitting. No splashing. No loud laughter, just sitting and relaxing. Any way, we had an enjoyable time and the kids went to bed relax and warm!

The next morning we headed off to a small trout farm just 2 miles west of the city called Smith Trout farm. We had a wonderful morning enjoying the gorgeous view and catching a few small fish.
After patiently waiting by Madi's reel, Mom finally got a bite. And boy was it a bite of a life time! Heather and Madi caught a 5 1/2 lb, 26 inch rainbow trout! What a fun day!

May 31st - 1st Camping Trip of the Season!

We spent our first trip in our new trailer at Smith and Moorehouse, on the back side of Uintas. It was gorgeous and peaceful. We met up with Paul's Brother, Adam, and did a little fishing and squirrel watching! Our first overnighter had to have one hitch. We can never go camping without breaking something. Paul got stuck w/ the trailer and ended up breaking off the back electrical hook up to pull tandem. He says it will be an easy fix, we'll have to see about that. All in all for an overnighter we had a fun time!

RED SOX vs. ANGELS

Our entire April 2009 trip to California stemmed around a Boston Red Sox's game! Paul thought this would be the closest he would get to seeing his Sox play and so we planned our trip to Disneyland and San Diego to attend this Major League Baseball game. It was a first for me and kids and we loved it! The stadium in Anaheim is very impressive. The game was fun to watch and the kids loved eating popcorn and cotton candy. They were all asleep by 8:30 pm, the earliest time all week long! And then the game concluded with a huge fireworks show! All in all we had a ROCKIN' great time and never stopped. I think after getting home we need a vacation from the vacation! So many memories created in a short period of time!

Mitchell loved seeing a full sized Darth Vader made entirely out of Legos. A boys dream come true!

Mommy got sick going around in circles with the cutest little princess in Lego Land!

This is the inauguration of Obama @ the white house. It was very impressive to see!

Mason just kept us laughing when we saw Bob the Builder. "Bob! Bob! Bob!" he kept repeating over and over again! He kept walking around him and touching every feature. . . "Bob! Bob! Bob!" The simple things that make us happy!

Funny Story. . . This is actually the place where my in laws were first married. It is now replicated in immortal Legos!

We had a fun day @ Lego Land in San Diego. The buildings were amazing and we spent hours just looking. Mitchell was fascinated at what was able to be built out of Legos. He also spent the majority of his birthday money in the gift shops buying Star Wars Lego sets. Happy Birthday Mitchell!

More Disneyland Fun - April 2009

Paul hit it off great with Witch! Madilynne was very timid but approached the Witch cautiously! She graciously nodded her head and politely posed for the picture.

I think we rode the Carousel six times. I was definitely dizzy by the time we pulled the kids away from all the "pwetty widdle horsies."

Heather, Mitchell, Madi, & Mason all rode on the very large pirate ship while Paul and Adam hit Indian Jones again!

JEDI Training Camp

Mitchell was one of the few chosen to participate in the JEDI Training Camp in Tomorrowland @ Disneyland. He was hand selected by a noble Jedi instructor and became a Padawan in training. He was instructed in the use of "The Force" and his light saber. All the little Padawans were dressed in Jedi robes and were preparing the meet the dark side when Darth Vadar emerged from under the moving stage.

Disneyland Parade Party!

Disneyland started out great! Paul, Mitchell, Madi, Mason, and I started out early and met up with Grandpa and Nana McNeely and Uncle Adam later in the after noon. We spent what felt like hours at Autopia. Mitchell and Dad rode on Indiana Jones and temple of doom. . . and that ended all big people rides for Mitchell. He was definitely tall enough but not old enough to ride the scary rides yet! He loved the kid rides. We will just have to save the adult rides for later!

Madilynne astonished us all by walking up the the Fairy God Mother and giving her a great big Hug and kiss. "I know you." Madilynne said with a smile and gave her another great big hug! It was a priceless smile!

SEA WORLD -- APRIL 2009

The next stop on our California Vacation 2009 was Sea World. We had a toasty day in the 90's and enjoyed every ray of sunshine!Paul and the kids spent the majority of time @ the sting ray pools. They were able to pet the largest sting rays I have ever seen.

Shamu was a hit! The kids liked the show but Mitchell really wanted to get wet!

We spent the day seeing all sorts of under water life. The kids absolutely loved seeing the Sea Lion show. It was hysterical for young and old. We sat in the front row, a splash zone, and just got sprinkled. The kids loved seeing everything up close and personal!

Our day ended around 2:00p.m. We loaded into the car and headed up the coast to Anaheim!

Paul & Madilynne ran in and out of the waves too many times to count! I don't think I have heard her laugh and have seen her smile for such a long period of time. And of course, Paul adored seeing her sooooo happy!

The pretty purple towel featured in this picture was our first family suvenoir for the trip. We went to the beach the first night we were San Diego w/ a bag of burritos and planned on just watching the sun set. Who knew the water would swallow 2 kids and a dad whole! That is the most expensive and cheap (quality) towel I have ever purchased. But, it kept Madi warm and Mitchell got to wrap up in the Emergency blanket in the car. Dad just bucked up and rode back to the hotel soaking wet!

Mitchell just enjoyed the warm wet sand between his toes, ankles, knees, and butt crack! He LOVED building and playing in the sand. He could have spent the entire week there and been perfectly happy.

Mason enjoyed the sand and loved to watch it catch in the wind from beneath his cubby little fingers. The water was little to intimidating to him. He was perfectly content to sit next to Mom and watch the waves roll in.

Mission Beach was our first stop of the California Vacation 2009. It might have been our total favorite if you account for price. Burritos $ 20. Sand Toys $ 5. Parking $0. Smiles & Laughter $0. Sand in every crevas of your body $0. Suveniour Beach Towel $16. Quality Family Time . . . PRICELESS!

Mitchell is a BIG Six Year Old!

Today we celebrated Mitchell's birthday, at his request, with a theme of Lego Star Wars. No fear, not to worry, Mom can think of anything. Right! Right? Right? OH BOY! Did this require a lot of imagination and planning and creativity.

Mitchell had any cousins who could attend come. That included, Hunter & Carly, and Addison & Jacob. And then he also had some additional friends, Kaylie & Ean Packard, and Steven.

Mitchell requested a Lego Star Wars birthday cake! And since no bakery can garantee me PEANUT-FREE we, meaning Mom, got creative. I used a wonderful (Damn Good Chocolate Cake) recipe and worked my magic. I thought it turned out pretty cute and the kids abosultely loved the idea of eating legos. And the adults even raved about the taste!

All of the kids were able to decorate their own Jedi Robes, constructed from paper sacks and mom's cutting and stapling skills! Then Paul introduced himself as Luke Skywalker to instruct his new Jedi in the use of their light sabers! Grandpa did a great job as acting as Darth Vader w/ actions noises included.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my DEAR, SWEET, MITCHELL MAN. I can't believe you are six!

Smokin' Hot Bread

I thought I would share my Honey Whole Wheat Bread Recipe. These loaves didn't last long. They are absolutely delicious. It makes me feel even better knowing that they are home ground, whole wheat, and honey too!

In a Large Mixer combine the following:

3 1/2 c. Whole Wheat Flour
1/3 c. Wheat Gluten
2 1/2 c. Very warm water
1 1/4 T. Active Dry Yeast

Cover w/ a towel and let it double in size for 10 minutes

Beat down X 1 min. Then add:

1/3 c. Honey
1/3 c. Oil
1 T. Salt
1 1/4 T. lemon juice (acts as a dough enhancer)

Mix for 1 min. Then add:

2 1/2 c. flour

Beat in mixer for 6-10 minutes.
Preheat oven to 170 degrees and turn off.

Use non-stick cooking spray to line 2 loaf pans.
Place a small amount of oil on the countertop. Seperate dough into 2 balls and mold into loaves. Place in warmed oven for 15min or doubled in size. Then turn on oven to 350 degrees. Leave bread in oven and cook for 30-35 minutes.

I got dressed, went to the bathroom, and started to brush my teeth and hair...until I realized. . . IT WAS VERY QUIET!!!!

St. George and SNOW?

We took a weekend trip to St. George to visit family and be at Paul's cousin's Homecoming from Greece. We woke up to 2-3 inches of snow. Mitchell was shocked to see snow at Grandpa Scott & Linda's House. Grandpa wasn't too shocked and enjoyed the extra hands to help shovel the snow.

We had some family fun on New Years Day 2009. We went sledding at Murray park. We could fit 1 adult and 2 kids to the ice fishing sled and Mitchell used his little red racer. Mom even had a few runs down. They squealed and squirmed and had a blast. Simple days make some of the most lasting memories!

FALLIN' OFF THE EARTH

No, I haven't fallin' off the earth, just the blog world for a short period of time. Life has been crazy for our house. Halloween came and went and then Thanksgiving was here and gone. The month of Decemeber was gone in a blur. I have a lot of photos to upload and share I just need to make the time again.

We had a surgery at Primary Children's Medical Center in the beginning of December for Mason's hearing. Paul ran a marathon in Las Vegas. And we celebrated Christmas twice w/ different grandparents.

We had our first visit of the year to Primary Children's Medical Center yesterday. Mason had a sedated hearing test done. After an hour of intubation we found out that his hearing has now returned to normal. YEAH!!!!

Las Vegas Marathon!!!

I have to give it up to my husband, Paul, for his magnificant effort in running his first marathon. He completed it! It was amazing to watch 25,000 people running on the Las Vegas strip at 6 AM and the 20 minutes of fireworks that exploded behind them. I was able to see Paul four times during the marathon. He did a great job and is actually even considering running another one. Way to go Honey!

Tooth Fairy's First Visit

Mitchell lost his first tooth this week, at age five. Paul helped him pull it while I was at work. Paul told Mitchell that the Tooth Fairy had to be notified by Mom before she would come. So the Tooth Fairy got a phone call the very next day, when Mom was home, and Mitchell put his tooth under his pillow that night with extreme excitement. He had a very hard time going to sleep. I went to check on him 2 hours after he had gone to bed and he was still wide awake, awaiting the arrival of the Tooth Fairy. He said, "Mom, I just don't know if I can do this! The suspense is tearing me apart. It might even be harder than waiting for Christmas!" Eventually he fell and asleep. And believe it or not, the Tooth Fairy came!

HA-PPI-NESS

We were sitting down as a family this week for dinner and Madilynne kept saying, "Mason, HA-PPI-NESS, Mason, HA-PPI-NESS!" Paul was amazed that Madilynne had learned such a big word, "HAPPINESS." I let Madilynne repeat the phrase about 4 times and then explained to Paul she didn't know such a big word. She was actually saying in her 2 year old language, "Mason has a penis." So may all you men out there "HA-PPI-NESS" too! I now have to figure out what to say her body part is.

The kids and I spent a good couple of hours playing in paint. They had so much fun painting their feet, palms, and thumbs. Mason laughed the most when I painted his feet. It is very difficult to keep a 12 month old still to paint and then press their body part onto the paint. Madi couldn't get enough of it. I think we ended up making 10 or 15 extra pumpkins! Thank you for the wonderful craft idea Matti! We had a blast.

I'll have to admit, I thought turning 30 would be horrible! But in all truth, it was a fun and memorable birthday. I am proud to say I am 30. I feel mature and grown up and more sure of who Heather is then ever before. I have 3 beautiful, fairly healthy children and a wonderful husband who supports me in whatever I want to pursue. I had a great birthday! My dear husband made sure of it. I felt important and loved, what more could I ask for?

We spent some almost free family time at Gardner Village. We enjoyed seeing the witches and many pumpkins. The kids dressed up in their Halloween Costumes and had a blast. We ate carmel dipped apples until dark and the watched the swans go to sleep. We had a fun family night!

The Scott Family life wouldn't be complete without some visit to the emergency room; but before I explain the ending to a fun night take a look at a few of the cutest little pumpkins picking the pumpkins from our own garden!

After all that fun we were playing on the front lawn and Madilynne went towards the concrete stairs into the house and tripped and landed w/ a partially opened mouth on the step. A loud crack was heard and I knew it was more than just a bump. She was bleeding profusely from her mouth. After about five minutes the bleeding slowed and she had a large gash on her upper lip and a tooth pushed back. I took her to kids care and had two nurse come look at her and I was sent to Primary Children's Medical Center for stitches from a plastic surgeon. I went to PCMC and waited in the ER w/ many other children, coughing, vomiting, and screaming for 2 hours before we were called back to a room. In the room I saw a wonderful Pediatric resident who said we needed to sew the lip up, she just needed her attending to see it before she called the Plastic Surgeon. The attending came in and said it actually didn't need to be sewn! WHAT? I was fuming mad, not at the physician but at the way things had been handled! I will be fighting that ER Bill all the way! Anyway, little Miss Madilynne is still hurting and on a regular schedule of motrin with a very swollen lip, but the good news is, NO STITCHES and NO BROKEN TEETH!

We spent Labor Day weeked at Mirror Lake, near the top of the Uintas. We enjoyed the tall pines and gooey smores that came with the camp fire. Probably the best part was relaxing in God's country. Every time I am in the outdoors I feel more compelled to reflect on the wondrous creations God has created and why. I am given the time to reflect on my life and how to simplify more and find what truely matters most -- Family and Great Friends. Of both I am very grateful to have.

I thought I should give a little update on my little fam and then try and finally download my 500+ photos on my photo card.

Mason's ear drums still aren't moving. We went to go see the Pediatric ENT this week and he has decide to wait on surgery for 2 more months. After the appointment we had a little excitement. My car was dead in the PCMC! Yeah, I was sitting in the parking lot w/ 3 kids @ nap time w/ a dead car. I called security and they tried to jump my car and that didn't work. I called for a tow truck and Paul. My prince in shining armor or ballastic gear came to my rescue to transfer 3 carseats and 3 tired kids into his police car. Then the tow truck took our car to the wrong auto shop to get fixed!

We also went to the State Fair this week. We had a great time and even rode the Big Yellow Slide. I don't think Paul has heard me squeal so much in a long time! Madilynne enjoyed the farm animals and Mitchell loved the games. Mason took it all in stride and really liked the birds.

Madi's U/S-not so hot, but workable. Mason's hearing screen - failed miserably! Mitchell's Opthamology check up - Great! 2/4 isn't bad, right? YELLOWSTONE 2008

And so our first family vacation begins with a long camping trip to Yellowstone National Park.

July 21, 2008 - The first animals of the trip were the great buffalo. They were huge and we all had to get out and see them. We also had a fantastic view of the GREAT TETON Mountains.

July 22, 2008 - We saw Lewis Lake and a Double Rainbow after some brief shows. Mitchell and Madi enjoyed some sibling love on the dock. We also saw GREAT OLD FAITHFUL. She was beautiful. It was a little warm, but nothing some $14.00 ice cream couldn't cool down. I will let you be the judge if the money was worth it, I think so.

July 23, 2008 - Mud Volcano, Paint Pots and more Geysers!

July 24, 2008 - We started out a little slow and enjoyed some P.J. time in the trailer and a hot breakfast! Today we saw a TON of wild life. We saw deer, elk, buffalo, and even 2 grizzly bears. **************

July 25, 2008 - We spent the day in Jackson, WY. We went to the fish hatchery and the boys did a little fishing. We visited down town Jackson square, walked thru a few shops and then enjoyed the live entertainment of a "Wild West Shoot Out." Oh, and Mason got a much needed bath in the trailer sink!

July 26, 2008 - Yellow Stone Lake, a little breezy but the kids could not resist the water! Dad tried fishin', but that's all that happened, a lot of fishin', no catchin'!

I'll have to admit this past week has been extremely difficult on me as a mom. I have struggled being positive and staying on top of anything to do with my house. I feel exhausted! I really want to sleep thru the night. Madilynne got sick on the Monday after her birthday with violent vomiting for Dad in the middle of the night (while I was at work). She then proceeded to have episode after episode of diarrhea for Mom. Mason didn't feel good and Mom was nauseated. Needless to say, the highlight of the day was when Dad came home. Mom had only slept two hours in the last 36 hours (not highly recommended). Dad took Mitchell and Madilynne out to feed our resident ducks. They seem to enjoy the pond and the free food. The kids had a ball and honestly, it is nice not to have to go to the park to feed the ducks. The simple gifts in life our right in front of us. We just need to be awake and pay attention to them.

The excitement filled the air! Can you tell?I know it was expensive, but well worth the smiles!
We had a quick trip on a crew car and it went really fast.
Besides being Dad for the day, Paul caught a drunk driver on the way up to Heber and a shop lifter who had felony charges out for her arrest!
Way to go Dad!

Madilynne loved the train ride and choo-chooed all the way. She also enjoyed petting the "Neeeehs" (mini horses) with her Daddy.

"CHUG-A-CHUG-A, CHOO CHOO!"
The weather was a little glummy at first with mild sprinkles, but quickly changed to sunny warm skies for about two hours. Just enough time to see all the sites, get Thomas the Train Tattoos, see the magician, play with the train table sets, see the Lego Train Land, and wave at Sir Topham Hat. All-in-all, it was a fabulous Memorial Day for the Scott Family.

Paul was talking about getting "goose bumps" and Mitchell was trying to figure it out. Paul explained that they are the little bumps you get on your body when you are cold. Mitchell looked very concerned and in the most innocent face asked his dad, "Does that mean I am going to grow feathers next?"

Preschool Graduate!

Hooray! Preschool is over for the summer and Kindergarten is coming soon. Mitchell has started reading simple words and very excited for kindergarten. The library is weekly event at our house and helps to keep mom sane by not reading the same stories over and over again.

Madilynne had a Happy Birthday with friends and family on Sunday afternoon. We ate Hawaiian Haystacks and had delicious strawberry cake. She needed a little help blowing out her candles, but luckily Mitchell and Mommy we standing by ready to assist.

It is amazing how the laughter of little bodies can warm your soul! The highlight of my day has been to watch my husband interact with my children and make them laugh. Their simple smiles and laughter are infectious! We, as a family, also enjoyed home baked (by that I mean, home-ground, whole wheat, from scratch) whole wheat bread. I am still searching for photos . . . . but I did unpack 2 more boxes today. I have enjoyed reading your blogs today!

The Simple Support of Supporters

Its amazing how the simple smiles and "how you doing" make a world of difference. Lately I have just been struggling with the so called "simple" life of being a Mom. And I am not quite sure that word even sums up all that it entails. I feel overwhelmed and exhausted. I haven't slept thru the night in almost 2 years now and I really miss sleeping. The word Mother or Mom just doesn't cover it. I feel like I feel so many roles of cook, maid, counselor, nurse, financial supporter, inspector, bug killer, wife, dog's best friend, listner, teacher, neat freak, wash woman, toilet scrubber, fixer-upper. . . . . .I feel like I am rambling. I guess what I am looking for or striving for is peace in life. I am striving for normallacy. . . . And I have been told by others my life just isn't. Is my life so filled with trials and stressors that I am missing normallacy? I guess I am working toward making my life my normallacy. I just want others out there to know I appreciate the "atta girls." I am still trying to find photos on my computer. Any takers on helping with the task? Anyway, THANKYOU to ALL! Keep smiling and continuing to be kind.

St. George Retreat!

We had our first family get away in a long time to St. George in April. The kids had a great time in the red sand of Grandpa and Linda's backyard that was under construction.

Mitchell practiced his T-ball skills and took Linda on a ride of her Life! Actually, Mitchell was very responsible in learning how to maneuver his 4-wheeler better. He took his first big ride with his dad and had a fabulous time, until his thumb got tired!

Aunt Cammy and Athena came to visit and also did Heather's hair while we were there. Mitchell's highlight was his ride on the big yellow bus, driven by his Aunt Mammy!
We love to go visit Grandpa and Linda in St. George. There is nothing like being with the ones you love!

EASTER 2008

Our Easter this year consisted of Paul and I switching turns taking care of sick kids at home to attend church, dishing out the Ibuprofen, and lots of juice and popsicles. Madilynne got sick on Wednesday w/ a fever of 103.5 and it only took three days for it to come down. Now she just has a yucky nose and a bad cough. Mitchell has a slightly subdued version and Mason so far shows no signs of being affected. All in all, we still remembered Christ and Mitchell gave his 2nd talk in Primary today on the importance of Easter. He did a fabulous job! We had our own family dinner and our own little Easter Egg Hunt inside (it was a little cool outside @ 47 degrees). I am still trying to access photos......Someday I will have a few more.

Let me start out by saying I feel like I am failing the blog world miserably. This should be such a simple task and yet I find myself putting it at the bottom of my list. I haven't been able to navigate thru my computer to upload all my great new photos I have downloaded to Photo Shop and some how I found a few tonight. I guess it is all a little trial and error. This week has been a little rough. Paul has worked the last 8 days in a row and I feel like I am a single parent. Very little alone time! Anyway, this month has shaped up to be good so far. Paul received a job promotion at work to Detectives. This means a day job, a nice office, and great days off. Oh, and possibly a little raise!

I have been faithful to myself this month. I promised I would get moving more. I feel a little more emotionally and mentally stable when I do. There have been some weeks I have ran as far as 15 miles. There are great physical benefits too. I have lost a total of 24 pounds since the beginning of the year and want to keep on going. Please keep the cheer leading going! Any way, I am going to do a few back postings to add a little more to my sorry little blog! I hope you enjoy it, I have really enjoyed seeing everyone elses!

Trains, Trains, and more Trains!

Mitchell, who is now almost 5 years old, loves train. He eats, sleeps, and dreams of trains. We went to the Ogden City Train Station for their model train expo. Mitchell was elated! We walked our legs off around and around the see all the model trains and big live ones too. Nana Lewis enjoyed seeing the excitement in her Grandkids eyes and Mom enjoyed every exciting minute!

Convertible? I don't think it is so practical for law enforcement use. Thank goodness and God that he is alive! He is a lot achy but moving around just the same. This event will always be embedded in our minds. How quickly your life's perspective can change! Love and Kiss those around you because you never know when that might change. I truly love my husband and he is apart of my soul. And I really do thank God, multiple times a day, that he is still here on this earth.

Paul experienced a life changing event on Feb 21, 2008. He left home giving his wife a brief kiss and saying I'll see you later tonight, after he was working an extra DEA Warrant shift. Little did he know he was going to see Heather a lot sooner and under not so great circumstances. Paul was traveling East bound on I-80 in Parley's Canyon when he hit a downed moose. His vehicle was launched up, Dukes of Hazard's Style, came down and proceeded to roll 4 times until it came to a rest on the driver's side over a snow bank. He was rescued by too many to count. Every listening ear on the radio responded in haste. THANK YOU!!! They turned his squad car into a convertable to get him out. God was watching out and blessing our family. Divine intervention and a seat belt saved his life. Paul is physically shaken, but not broken. The whole family, especially Paul and Heather are emotionally recovering.

This is supposed to make me feel a WHOLE lot better about being the SUPER MOM that I'm not! Will it really make me one? I am willing to give it a try!
